DPIIT-QCI Industry Interaction in Tiruppur Focuses on Quality and Global Competitiveness

Tiruppur, 27 January 2026:

An industry interaction meeting jointly organised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and the Quality Council of India (QCI) was held in Tiruppur on 27 January 2026, in coordination with the Tiruppur Exporters and Manufacturers Association (TEEMA). The meeting took place at Hotel Fortune Park and brought together policymakers, quality experts, and industry stakeholders to discuss ways to strengthen quality systems and enhance the global competitiveness of India’s textile and apparel sector.

Senior officials from QCI, including Dr Ram Prasadh, Joint Director, and Dr Prasoon Mishra, Deputy Director, participated in the interaction and engaged directly with manufacturers and exporters from the Tiruppur cluster. The discussions focused on improving consistency in shop-floor quality, addressing process-level challenges, and simplifying standards, certification, and testing frameworks across the industry.

A key theme of the interaction was the need to reduce compliance-related burdens and procedural bottlenecks faced by MSMEs, which form the backbone of India’s apparel manufacturing ecosystem. Industry representatives highlighted the challenges associated with multiple audits, overlapping certifications, and the cost and complexity of compliance, particularly for smaller units.

The dialogue also underlined the importance of bridging workforce skill gaps and strengthening capability-building initiatives to improve export readiness. Participants stressed the need to align production practices with evolving global benchmarks on quality, safety, and sustainability, especially as international buyers increasingly emphasise consistency, traceability, and compliance.

The interaction reflected a collaborative and solution-oriented approach between policymakers, quality institutions, and industry stakeholders. By fostering closer engagement at the cluster level, the DPIIT–QCI initiative aims to reinforce India’s position as a reliable, quality-driven, and globally competitive sourcing destination within the international apparel value chain.
