The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) marked its 47th Foundation Day with a celebratory event at its headquarters in Apparel House, Gurugram. The occasion, filled with pride and gratitude, saw participation from senior functionaries and staff members. The lighting of lamps and cake-cutting ceremony set the tone for the event, symbolizing the council’s continued commitment to driving India’s apparel exports forward.
Chairman of AEPC, Shri Sudhir Sekhri, reflected on the council’s journey, emphasising its crucial role in shaping the Indian apparel industry. “AEPC’s successful completion of 47 years is a testament to its dedication to the apparel exporters and the industry at large. Over the years, AEPC has actively taken up industry concerns with the government and relevant agencies, ensuring the promotion, protection, and growth of the readymade garment (RMG) sector,” he stated.
The past year has been particularly encouraging for India’s apparel exports, despite global economic challenges. India’s RMG exports witnessed a robust 11.6% growth from April 2024 to January 2025 compared to the previous year. This growth is significant given the backdrop of geopolitical uncertainties, supply chain disruptions, and global economic headwinds.
Secretary General Shri Mithileshwar Thakur provided further insights into the expanding market reach of Indian apparel. “We have seen remarkable growth in traditional strongholds like the USA and the European Union. Exports to the USA grew by 13.8%, while the UK saw an 8.9% increase. Additionally, Germany and Spain recorded 10.6% and 19.7% growth, respectively. The expansion into FTA partner countries such as South Korea, Japan, Australia, Mauritius, and the UAE also highlights the increasing global demand for Indian garments.”
On this landmark occasion, AEPC expressed its sincere gratitude to the Indian government for its unwavering support in bolstering the apparel industry. The council acknowledged the instrumental role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh, and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in fostering a conducive business environment for exporters.

As AEPC looks ahead, its vision for 2025-26 centers around market expansion and sustainability. The council has devised a strategic roadmap to explore new and non-traditional export markets, reducing dependency on established destinations and diversifying India’s global apparel footprint.
Additionally, AEPC has been actively encouraging Indian garment manufacturers to adopt sustainable and eco-friendly practices. By promoting environmental and social compliance, the council aligns with global sustainability standards, ensuring Indian apparel remains competitive in an increasingly eco-conscious market.
To amplify its reach and engagement, AEPC has initiated a social media awareness campaign showcasing its ongoing efforts and the government’s role in supporting the apparel industry. The council aims to leverage digital platforms to highlight key initiatives, industry developments, and success stories.
Reflecting on the journey of the past 47 years, AEPC remains steadfast in its commitment to policy advocacy, trade facilitation, capacity building, and market intelligence. The executive committee members congratulated all AEPC employees, recognising their dedication and contributions in achieving another milestone year.
