India’s MSME Textile Clusters Drive Sustainability Efforts
New Delhi, February 14, 2025: Bharat Tex 2025, one of India’s most prestigious textile exhibitions, commenced at Bharat Mandapam, Delhi, highlighting the theme of sustainability in the textile sector. The event featured the Global Textiles Dialogue knowledge session on “Cluster Conversation – How India’s MSME Textile Clusters Are Leading the Sustainability Drive”, underscoring the nation’s commitment to green industrial practices.
The session was chaired by Shri Pabitra Margherita, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Textiles and External Affairs, Government of India, with Shri Sunil Handunneththi, Hon’ble Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, Government of Sri Lanka, serving as co-chair.
Mr. K. M. Subramanian, President of the Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA), delivered an insightful address on the remarkable sustainability practices adopted by Tirupur’s textile industries. He highlighted key initiatives that have positioned Tirupur as a global leader in eco-friendly textile production:
Mr. Kumar Duraiswamy, Joint Secretary of TEA, further emphasized that India’s deep-rooted culture inherently values sustainability, and Tirupur’s textile industries have successfully translated this philosophy into action. He credited the collaborative approach between the local government, NGOs, and industry stakeholders for making these green initiatives possible.
The prestigious Bharat Tex 2025 exhibition was inaugurated with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony led by Shri Giriraj Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Textiles; Shri Sudhir Sekhri, Chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC); and Padmashri Dr. A. Sakthivel, Honorary Chairman of the Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA).
Distinguished TEA representatives, including Mr. K. M. Subramanian (President), Mr. Rajkumar Ramasamy (Vice President), Mr. V. Elangovan (Vice President), Mr. N. Thirukkumaran (General Secretary), and Mr. Kumar Duraiswamy (Joint Secretary), were present at the inaugural session, reinforcing Tirupur’s commitment to sustainable textile manufacturing.
With Bharat Tex 2025 serving as a platform for innovation, collaboration, and sustainability, Tirupur continues to set global benchmarks in eco-friendly textile production and green industrial practices, ensuring a cleaner and greener future for the industry.
