
As part of the Pongal celebrations, a vibrant fashion show was organised at Tiruppur Jaivabai Municipal Girls Higher Secondary School by NIFT–TEA College of Knitwear Fashion, Tiruppur, with a strong focus on nurturing creativity and providing practical exposure to school students.
The event, held between 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm, witnessed enthusiastic participation from Class XI and XII students of the Textiles Department, who confidently walked the ramp showcasing garments inspired by traditional Pongal themes, blended thoughtfully with contemporary silhouettes and design sensibilities. The presentations reflected a fine balance between cultural roots, innovation, and modern fashion expression.
The programme was presided over by Mrs A. Stella Amalorpava Mary, Headmistress of the school, who welcomed the gathering and lauded the initiative for providing students with an opportunity to showcase their abilities beyond the classroom.
Addressing the audience, Dr V.R. Sampath, Dean of NIFT–TEA College, spoke about the importance of early exposure to fashion and textile education. He emphasised that such platforms play a crucial role in building confidence, encouraging creativity, and helping students discover their individual strengths.
Senior representatives from NIFT–TEA College, including Mr Raja M. Shanmugam, Chief Mentor; Mr R. Govindaraju, Chairman; and Mr K. Kandasamy, Vice Chairman, extended their greetings to the participants and appreciated the students for their efforts, discipline, and originality. Winners of the competitions were felicitated with prizes in recognition of their talent.





The event was further enriched by the presence of Mr D.M. Kumar, Joint Secretary of the Tiruppur Exporters’ Association, who attended as the Chief Guest. He commended the students for their confidence and creativity, and encouraged them to pursue opportunities in textiles and fashion, highlighting Tiruppur’s global importance as a knitwear hub.
Special appreciation was extended to Ms Joyce, who coordinated the event and ensured its smooth execution. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr R. Radhamani, Principal of NIFT–TEA College, marking a successful and inspiring celebration of talent, tradition, and learning.
