Artistic expression knows no bounds, and for one ambitious student, the fusion of sculpting and creativity led to a remarkable art installation centred on a Royal Enfield clay model bike. This project showcases the student’s talent and dedication and serves as a testament to the enduring allure of classic motorcycles and the power of art to captivate and inspire. Kamali, a final year student of Costume Design and Fashion studying at NIFT TEA College of Knitwear and Fashion has given life to her fascination towards travel.
The concept of using a scrape Royal Enfield as the centrepiece for this art installation speaks volumes about the artist’s intention to merge the rustic charm of a vintage motorcycle with the delicate artistry of clay modelling. Known for their distinctive design and powerful presence, Royal Enfield bikes evoke a sense of nostalgia and adventure, making them a popular choice among motorcycle enthusiasts and collectors. The juxtaposition of these two elements not only sparks curiosity but also invites viewers to ponder on the deeper meaning behind the piece. Wings that spread out are a symbolic image of her desire for travel. This yearning has taken the image of this Clay model bike.
The student’s decision to sculpt the bike using clay adds a unique and tactile element to the project, transforming a two-dimensional concept into a three-dimensional work of art. The process of sculpting allows for a hands-on approach to creativity, enabling the artist to bring their vision to life through careful shaping and melding of the material.
Sculpting a Royal Enfield clay model bike is no easy feat, requiring precision, patience, and a keen eye for detail. The student embarks on a journey of exploration and experimentation, studying the intricate curves and design features of the motorcycle to accurately capture its essence in clay. She has used acrylic and spray paints of colours like silver, black gold and yellow. From the sleek curves of the body to the intricate details of the engine and wheels are meticulously crafted to mimic the rugged aesthetic of a Royal Enfield. It stands as a testament to the artist’s dedication to their craft.
Viewers are encouraged to examine their perceptions of beauty and imperfection as they engage with the art installation. The scrape Royal Enfield clay model bike challenges conventional notions of aesthetics by celebrating flaws as unique features that add character and depth to the piece.
With the guidance of experienced art teachers and mentors, Kamali has worked tirelessly to ensure every detail is perfect. The student’s creative process is a labour of love, with hours spent refining and perfecting each aspect of the clay model. Kamali has spent 157 days with 95 kgs of clay to create this masterpiece. The tactile nature of sculpting allows for a deep connection with the artwork, as the artist imbues their passion and dedication into every stroke and shape.
In a world filled with mass-produced goods and fleeting trends, the student’s art installation of a Royal Enfield clay model bike is a testament to the enduring power of artistry and craftsmanship. Through their dedication and skill, the student has brought to life a timeless symbol of adventure and freedom, captivating audiences and inspiring creativity in all who behold their work.
