Discussions on FTA and Global Competitiveness
During the meeting, Dr. A. Sakthivel congratulated Shri Piyush Goyal on the successful execution of the second edition of Bharat Tex 2025, acknowledging the platform’s role in strengthening India’s position as a global textile powerhouse.
A key topic of discussion was the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and its potential impact on Indian textile exports. Dr. Sakthivel emphasized that the FTA would provide significant advantages by ensuring preferential market access and reducing trade barriers, further boosting Tiruppur’s global presence.
Tiruppur’s Growth and Labor Challenges
Shri K. M. Subramanian, President of TEA, briefed the Minister on the positive market trends in the Tiruppur cluster, noting:
- Steady demand growth in export markets
- Increased global competitiveness of Tiruppur-based exporters
- Adaptability and resilience in response to evolving market challenges
The discussion also addressed Tiruppur’s longstanding labor shortage. The Minister suggested an interstate promotional campaign, encouraging TEA to advertise in other states to highlight the excellent facilities and welfare measures offered by Tiruppur exporters for migrant workers. This initiative aims to attract a skilled workforce to sustain the region’s continued growth.
Tiruppur: A Leader in Sustainable Textiles
With its strong sustainability practices and increasing global demand, Tiruppur remains a key driver of India’s textile exports. Bharat Tex 2025 provided a powerful platform for exporters to showcase their strengths, discuss industry challenges, and explore opportunities for future growth.
